This week is an encore show where we devote Hour 2 to the great horn sections and horn players of the classic alternative era with tracks from Dexy’s Midnight Runners, Fishbone, Oingo Boingo, Kid Creole & the Coconuts, The Specials, The Blasters and many more great hornmeisters.

Maggie Connell of The Heaters is our guest. The Heaters were one of the LA New Wave scene’s hottest live acts of the late 70s. Led by Maggie Connell, Missy Connell and Mercy Bermudez, the band forged their own sound amid the ascension of the new genre in southern California: a mix of 60s soul, the early girl groups and punk. The Heaters will release the tracks they recorded in 1983 in a few different locations (not in big studios) in a compilation titled: American Dreams: the Portastudio Recordings.

Our week of 8-5 podcast/syndication edit with Peter Godwin is up. One of the early new wave innovators, Godwin co-founded Metro before going solo. His classic tracks include “Images of Heaven,” “The Art of Love” and “Criminal World,” the latter of which he wrote with Metro and was covered by David Bowie.

During Hour 2, we play music from German New Wavers of the 80s, many of them part of the Neuve Deutshe Welle movement, featuring tracks from Nena, Trio, The Spider Murphy Gang, Spliff, Hubert Kah, Alphaville and many more.
