Traditional and new “Pop” flavor in Men Without Hats’ “Pop Goes the World 2012”

With fans eagerly awaiting the band’s upcoming Love in the Age of War album later this year, Men Without Hats offers a taste with a new mix of their 1988 hit “Pop Goes the World.”

With the same energy and flavor, MWH frontman Ivan Doroschuk keeps true to the whimsical novelty-song aspect of the track while subtly updating it for today’s dance club atmosphere. The most striking difference from the original is Doroschuk’s ditching of the murmur singing tone of the 1988 hit in favor of the traditional deep “Ivan voice” with the occasional one-syllable falsetto. Also, it would seem that the little girl who introduced the cut back in the 80s is now grown up. Still, Doroschuk and his producers made sure not to take the “pop” out of the quirky song. “Pop Goes the World 2012” is available on Amazon.com and iTunes

Doroschuk is fresh off a successful comeback tour across North America in 2011, his first in 20 years, where he previewed some of his new music. Men Without Hats plans to release Love in the Age of War in May.
