The B-52s, Cyndi Lauper Play at the Original Woodstock Site on 6/14

Considered by many as the top party band of the 1980s, the B-52s are headed to Sullivan County, NY as part of their nationwide tour through much bigger cities to play at the Bethel Woods Center For the Arts, the location of he historic Woodstock concert in 1969.
The B-52s, who did videos in the Woodstock area (“Channel Z,” “Love Shack”) are touring in support of their new album, Funplex — a CD filled with the vintage sounds of the band. While the band had grown as performers over the years, Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson and Adam Strickland have never lost the core of their act that made them great and memorable.

The B-52s are thei first new wave-era band to perform at Bethel Woods Center For the Arts, which has an obvious place in rock and folk-rock history. Earlier this month, the center opened the doors to its Woodstock museum, which expects visitors from around the world. Organizaers at Bethel Woods also has a first-rate lineup of performers scheduled to play there this summer including Cheap Trick, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, Heart and Ringo Starr.

Also playing Ssaturday night at Bethel Woods will be Cyndi Lauper, whose NYC-influenced style of pop was genuinely her own. She ht the music scene running with her debut album She’s So Unusual in 1984 and soon became a star, actress and WWF celebrity (thanks to her friendship with wrestler Captain Lou Albano). Like the B-52s, Lauper’s style may have matured after her first offerings, but she never abandoned her original style.
