Congratulations to Blondie for earning this year’s TV Land “Icon Award” from the cable network for their contributions to music and pop culture in the US.
Blondie was a rare new wave/punk/dance hybrid whose most memorable tracks include “Atomic,” “The Tide is High,” “Heart of Glass” and “Rapture.” The latter being given credit for being one of the first popular rap tracks, yet Debbie Harry and company were poking fun at the genre a bit with the cut. The band brought a unique sound to the mainstream with some original tracks and a few of the era’s greatest covers, including “The Tide is High” and “Hanging on the Telephone.” Harry would also have a noteworthy solo career which included a rap-dance project with Dee Dee Ramone.
Blondie still performs live on a regular basis and fans can catch up with the band on their quite active blog.
