Dogs, Cats and (yes) Chickens were dressed in the finest 80s-style fashions at this year’s New York Pet Fashion Show, which took place on February 11th at the Hotel Pennsylvania. Organizers Ada Nieves and Gregg Oehler themed this year’s Fashion Week event for furry friends “Rescued by the 80s†as the event raised money for The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals.
Several well-known designers of animal attire were in attendance to show off their 80s-inspired creations on the runway. Models included dogs, cats, a chicken and a bearded dragon. Inspirations for the outfits ranged from musicians of the 80s to television shows to popular games of the time. Here are some on and off-runway stars of the show:
Rescued by the 80s was highlighted by Nieves, Oehler and MC Maria Mellito of Q104.3 FM presenting the Golden Paw Awards. Among the recipients were:
- Humanitarian of the Year: Actress/philanthropist Rachel Grant
- Documentary Producer of the Year: Rachel Grant for “Give Me Shelterâ€
- Legacy Award – Brock, the inspiration behind Pilots and Paws
- Shelter Organization of the Year – Whitney Knowlton’s Last Chance Animal Rescue
Among the unique pet service vendors there was Creations by C & C, a line of pet jewelry co-founded by Olympic Gold Medalist Dominique Moceanu and her partner Wendy Campbell, seen below.
Rescued by the 80s also showcased several pups who were available for adoption. For more information on how you can find a pet in need of a home, please call or visit your local animal shelter or rescue organization.
