The podcast edit for our 3/23 Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the bottom of this post. This week, we have a conversation with Ginger Coyote, editor of Punk Globe Magazine and lead singer of the White Trash Debutantes. Ginger started Punk Globe in 1977, bringing to the nation some of punk’s greatest acts before they were famous. Ginger is also the lead singer of the White Trash Debtantes, has been in music documentaries, videos and a Mad TV sketch among other things. She is also a huge part of punk music history. Our interview with Ginger leads off hour 2 of the show.
During our conversation, Ginger and I discuss:
- Why she started Punk Globe in 1977
- The punk music scene over the years
- Growing Punk Globe into a national, and now worldwide publication
- Stories from the early punk days in San Francisco
- Some of the greats of the industry, many of whom became Punk Globe Contributors
- The White Trash Debutantes, fronted by Ginger, and the time they had Tonya Harding in the band
You may also have seen Ginger in Josie Cotton‘s 2007 video for “Maneaters (Get Off the Road):”
Ginger also interviewed Revenge of the 80s Radio host Chris Cordani in the March 2012 issue of Punk Globe. Read it here.
