Effort to Make “Fairytale of NY” a #1 Download Going Strong
Written by admin on December 16, 2010
The social networking movement to make “Fairytale of New York” a number 1 download for this week is underway and going quite strong. Weeks ago, a fan named James Stubbens started a Facebook page dedicated to chart the song by asking people to download the famous Christmas duet between December 12th and 18th in tribute to Kirsty MacColl, who sang the track with The Pogues as it became an instant holiday classic.
This is one of many ways homage has been paid to MacColl this year — a decade after her tragic death while vacationing in Cozumel, Mexico. One of the most notable was the October 10th “Concert for Kirsty” held in London, from which the proceeds went to her longtime charity, the Music Fund for Cuba
To participate in the effort, Steubbens is asking fans to download the track from the following sources before the end of December 18th, 2010:
- iTunes:

According to Steubbens’ Facebook page, a similar effort is being planned in 2011.
