Former Romeo Void frontwoman Debora Iyall says she is working on a solo album. According to her Facebook and MySpace page posts, Iyall’s new collection has an ETA of summer 2010.
Recently, Debora released some music she was working on with Peter Dunne. The four tracks, “Ninety Nine,” “Stay Strong,” “Tell Me Why” and “One Saturday Night.” are available for fans on Iyall’s Reverb Nation Page.
“Ninety-Nine” is a solemn power ballad that displays a softer dimension to Iyall’s more edgy vocal style she earned fame for with Romeo Void. “Tell Me Why” mixes an alt-country guitar sound by Dunne with the tempo and singing style of a 1960s-era movie classic track from Debora.
With “Stay Strong,” Iyall takes on the more modern acoustic-alternative genre like she invented it while offering an inspirational lyrical message, as Dunne’s masterful guitar offering a “live at the local playhouse” atmosphere to what is really a studio-recorded track. “One Saturday Night” is a the more catchy of the four, yet Iyall’s carefully-steered upbeat pace and deceptively melodic tone tells the story in such a way that the sadness behind it sneaks in more with each time one listens.
Iyall, like several other artists of the classic alternative era, offers Romeo Void fans another side to her “cool rock chick” singing persona of the 1980s, and if this is only a sample of what is to come in the summer, we at Revenge of the 80s are eagerly awaiting the finished product.
